Head Start
Head Start is a program aimed at 3½ to 5 year old children. By providing early stimulus to low-income children, it has proven to increase participants learning abilities once formalized schooling begins. The cost per child for Head Start is $2,640.32Information provided by the Human Development Corp., Head Start Program There are an estimated 6500 children who are eligible for the program. Of that number 2270 children in the 3½ to 5 age group are currently being served. We propose to extend the Head Start program to cover all eligible children, approximately 4230 more children. The cost of doing so would be $11,167,200.
